Name of Assignment: Using Transformations as an Architect Subject: Geometry Facilitator/Teacher: Christine Marsh (Ms. Marsh)
Description of Work/Assignment:
This assignment was a group project where each student had to draw an apartment that was at least 600-800 sqft. Everyone voted on a design and they chose that to be every apartment in the complex that we drew. We were given tracing paper to trace the apartment from the graphing paper. We did rotations where every student had a job (timer, calculator, manager and drawer) to do during each 7 min rotation. We flipped the paper to trace another apartment which showed the reflection transformation and drew a dilated apartment which showed the dilation transformation.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This project addresses the communication 21st century skill because as a group we had to make sure we were all on the same page while completing the project. Miscommunication of drawing or size of the apartment could build confusion.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of the whole project because as a group we designed a pretty cool apartment complex and also the design was mine, lol.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I improved on my 21st century skill by speaking/explaining correctly and thoroughly so my groupmates understood me .
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of completing the task was the initial design of the apartment that each student drew. Getting started and knowing where to start was hard for me because I had to make sure all the requirements were met.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
I could improve on the work by designing the apartment so that we could have a balcony for every apartment. This was my original plan, but it didn't work out because the side the balcony was on, it was sometimes blocked by the other apartment next to it. If I would start over I would just make it so that I could have a balcony on every apartment.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to what I learned in the past with architecture that I have done in engineering in the first semester of this year. We got to design the zone 1 online using a special software.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning by somewhat knowing how to design a room. Also how to really think about how something is going to work in the end run instead of just focusing on the current design.
