Name of Assignment: Community Engagement Tent Subject: Community Engagement Facilitator/Teacher: NOBODY
Description of Work/Assignment:
The class was given a tent as their community engagement class that was standing above gravel. The class needed to come up with ideas to decorate the tent as if it were a classroom. Students were assigned to brainstorm ideas about the tent and about things that the school may need for education, nutrition/fitness, community, and much more.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This big class project addresses the Financial, Economic & Business Literacy 21st Century Skill. This project gave the students the understanding how to complete projects by DIYing (Doing It Yourself) to save money. We all had to realize that there was a budget and fundraisers, grants, donations, etc. were all reality. Budget was needed to come into consideration a bit even though it wasn’t the students' money.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
The ideas from all of the different students were awesome to see become real. The brainstorming and ideas is what stood out to me which I am very proud of.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I developed this Financial, Economic & Business Literacy 21st Century Skill. Having money in consideration through the building of a project is crucial. I had to brainstorm what we could do for the tent that both benefited and was little to no cost.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The students never really did put most of the tent together as many didn’t know how to use certain tools. But one of the only things we did was brainstorming which is hard. Having to think about the best option can be hard, but with multiple brains/people ideas were made.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different?
Finishing the walls and floor of the tent would be great. If we were to restart I would probably seal the wood flooring for the longevity of the wood before anybody walking on it.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to almost every group project I have done. Having to brainstorm ideas, agree to them, and execute the ideas.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning by knowing how to make decisions not for the looks but for the functionality and or budget.
