Name of Assignment: Cuban Missile Crisis Subject: Humanities 11 (World History/Expository Writing) Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Terry
Description of Work/Assignment:
I was put into a group and we all looked at documents about the cold war, which was a result from WWII between the US and the USSR. We organized the documents the best we could by date. It was hard to understand what was going on at first, but as we got more information we could figure it out. Once we figured out what was going on, we had to send the president (John F. Kennedy) an email on what the most logical way to stop Cuba from sending a bomb to the United States. We were given five different options and went through the pros and cons of each option. We didn’t choose the option that actually happened, which was to make a border to stop the shipment of weapons to Cuba from the Soviet Union.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This 21st century skill addresses the Thinking and Problem solving skill. This is because as a group we went through options and looked at what would be the most logical solution. To do this we thought about the information we were given than made an educated guess.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am proud that I worked well with my group members to come up with logical solutions. I'm glad I was able to contribute to my group and complete the assignment to our potential.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
By using the skill I developed it, I unconsciously used the skill while doing this assignment. I figured something out by thinking about the options and information I was given.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part was trying to figure out what they information we were given was meant to convey to us. We had to all share our thoughts and agree what was the best description that made the most sense.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
I could have improved this by getting more time so we could write down all of the possible ideas we have about the information given. This is so we could make the best decision on the options given .
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
This relates to the bombing of peal harbor and wars that i have learned about in the past.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning by using my improved thinking and problem solving skill to do something similar like making a decision.
